OBS is undoubtedly a powerful livestreaming software for gamers, content creators, and host professionals. However, it’s not so great when there’s real-time background noise. Fortunately, there’s an easy fix for audio noise while livestreaming. In this blog post, I share the best (so far) tool for real-time noise reduction. Moreover, I show how to set it up to work well with OBS.
Introducing Waves and Clarity Vx
Waves Creative Access is a well-known name in the world of audio processing. It offers a catalog of plugins for mixing and audio production. It’s subscription-based and is available from $12.50/month if you pay annually. I recommend their subscription plans as it comes with a lot of useful audio plugins.

Clarity Vx is an AI-driven plugin that eliminates distractions such as background hums, hisses, or chatters. It can be used during audio post-production and/or even while streaming. It’s included in an active Waves subscription or can be bought separately.

Plugin Compatibility
The Waves plugin only works presently with Intel-powered Macs. So if you are using a PC or the latest silicon Mac, this plugin won’t work.
I always strive to provide alternatives and tips for achieving good audio quality for all budgets and users. You can check the other links at the bottom of this post for a list of blog posts that might help you.
How to Set up Waves Plugin
First, you’ll need to have an active subscription with Waves. Once you do, you can then install the plugin on your computer.
Next, open OBS and create a simple scene.
Then click on the three dots under Mic/Aux and click Filters.
On the Filters tab, click the ‘+’ sign on the lower left side and select VST.2x Plug-in. Then give it a name.
After that, select the Waves StudioRack for OBS plugin.
Then click Open Plug-in Interface.
Finally, on the StudioVerse Interface, install the Clarity Vx plugin. The easiest way to do this is to click the ‘+’ icon > Noise Reduction > Clarity Vx.
This will then add the plugin to your effect rack.
How To Use Clarity Vx
If you set up OBS and Waves plugin correctly as instructed above, you can use Clarity Vx while streaming. So what this plugin does is pick up your voice input, reduce noise, and deliver the output to your OBS livestream in real-time.
The main setting you need to manipulate is the noise reduction dial found at the center. You just need to crank it up. The closer to 100, the higher the noise reduction applied.
Other settings you can change are the Neural Network and Analysis. If you’re livestreaming alone, choose Broad 2 under Neural Network. Choose Broad 1 if you have multiple speakers. On the other hand, select Double under analysis if you are on stereo. If not, choose Single.
