Udio is currently one of the top AI music generators in the market. In this tutorial blog post, I’ll show you how to harness the power of Udio even if you’re not a musician! From generating music with simple text prompts to advanced custom prompting and publishing, you’ll learn everything you need to start creating your own unique musical compositions with the help of AI.
What is Udio?
Udio is an AI tool that allows users to create music from simple text prompts by specifying topics, genres, and other descriptors which are then transformed into professional-quality tracks. It was released publicly last April and has become popular among creators and musicians.
In regards to pricing, Udio offers several subscription plans. It has a free plan with a limited daily quota and basic features. The paid plans that start at $10 per month offer more advanced functionality.
Getting Started with Udio
On the Discover tab of Udio, you’ll be presented with a list of tracks people made using the platform. You can check the prompts and tags used to create a track by hovering over its title. It’s a great way to learn more about how the tool makes use of text prompts to create music.
The next tab is My Creations. This is where you can check all of the tracks you created using the platform. You can also interact with your music tracks by listening, remixing, extending, and publishing them directly from Udio.
The third tab in your Udio dashboard is Liked Songs. This is where you can find all of the tracks you gave a heart reaction. This is very useful when making a list of tracks that you want to recreate.
How To Generate Tracks in Udio
To generate music on Udio, you’ll need to add text prompts to specify how you want the track to sound. You can add the type of instruments, music genre, atmosphere, and any other descriptors.
You can also select tags from Udio’s suggestions located below the prompt box. Moreover, the platform also allows you to add your lyrics if you have. Furthermore, Udio has the capability of creating either an instrumental track or music with vocals.
If you want to create an acapella track, choose Instrumental. However, if you’re going to have vocals in your music, you can either select Custom or Auto-generated. Choose Custom if you want to add your own lyrics while Auto-generated if you want Udio to generate the lyrics.
A Manual Mode is also available if you want to directly interact with the Udio model rather than have your prompt rewritten. This a great feature to specifically control your musical generations.
Press the Create button after you add text prompts. Udio will then provide you with the generated track based on the descriptors you added.
How To Extend Generated Tracks
Udio has an amazing feature that allows you to extend a track you already generated. This is useful if you want to add an intro and outro or just want to extend the duration of the music,
To do this, go to the My Creations tab and click the Extend button beside the track you want to modify.
You’ll get a new prompt box on top which you can use to make changes to the track. You can add new text prompts and choose how to extend the music track. You can create an outro or intro or add a section before or after.
Just press Extend to make the changes to the generated music track.

Udio allows creators to publish their works inside the platform. This is useful if you are a creator or musician and you want to share your works with other people.
To do this, open the track you want to publish then click the Edit button below.
I recommend you change the title and image cover of the track to make it searchable and identifiable.

Tips for Generating Tracks Using Udio
Use Square Brackets in Your Lyrics
Square brackets can be used to add non-verbal prompting in Udio. This is very useful when you to add specific cues such as emotions to your music track. For example, adding “[Scream]” before a section will prompt Udio that there should be a change in emotions when generating that part of the track.

Maximize Music Direction
The track generated by Udio is mainly based on the prompts you added. With that in mind, it is important to add as many specific keywords as you can. For example, you can specifically add the tempo, the song key, and the genre of the track you want to create for better results.
Final Thoughts
Udio is a powerful AI tool to generate lyrical and instrumental music. It is a great tool for creators who want to generate music for their projects using AI. It is also an amazing platform for musicians to share their works with the public.
