The iconic voice of Venom – deep, monstrous, and unsettling – is one of the most popular villain voices in modern films. And if you re like me, who finds the voice interesting after watching the trilogy, then you may be wondering if you can replicate it. If you want to sound like the symbiote yourself, I will walk you through exactly how to make the voice of Venom using Adobe Audition and some plugins. Let s dive in.
Record Your Voice
Everything starts with a clean and well-recorded voice track. You don’t need an expensive setup, but you do need a clear recording. You can even use your iPhone to record. However, if you have a quality condenser or dynamic microphone, then that s better to use. Don’t forget to record in a quiet space to avoid background noise.
Furthermore, try to speak from the belly to make it lower and raspy. Do your best to sound as close as Venom, but don’t pressure yourself to make it perfect because we will put some effects later on.
Change Pitch
After you recorded your voice, it’s time to add some effects to make it the voice of Venom. This time, we will need to use one of the best audio editing software Adobe Audition.
The first audio effect we will add is to change the Pitch. Venom’s voice is much deeper than a typical human voice, so lowering the pitch will get us closer to that growl.
To change the Pitch, go to Effects > Time and Pitch > Pitch Shifter.

On the Pitch Shifter tab, you just need to transpose the pitch by Semitones. You can try lowering it by 1 until you’re happy with how low your voice sounds. For my recorded voice, I lowered it to -4.
Don’t forget to save the changes.
Adjust Modulation
The next effect is Modulation. Modulation adds that inhuman, dual-layered resonance that gives Venom his alien feel. Although, if you noticed, there is a noticeable difference in how the voice of Venom sounds in each movie throughout the trilogy. This might be because the production used different audio effect processes or different editing tools.
Anyway, to adjust the Modulation in Adobe Audition, go to Effects > Modulation > Chorus.
Then, on the preset dropdown menu, choose Bass Chorus.
There are a few controls you need to dial down here to make your voice sound more like Venom’s. The first is the Delay Time. It specifies the maximum amount of delay allowed. Second, is the Modulation Depth. This determines the maximum variation in amplitude that occurs. The third is the Modulation Rate. This determines the maximum rate at which amplitude changes occur.
And finally, the Dry and Wet Output Levels. The Dry is the original single signal, which is your recorded voice, while the Wet is the processed signal. You only need to lower the Wet level.
Basically, you just need to dial down these 4 characteristics under the Bass Chorus. In my case, I lowered the Delay Time to 10ms, Modulation Depth to 2.1dB, Modulation Rate to 5.5Hz, and the Wet Output Level to 28%. You can copy this, but make sure that it does make your voice sound more like Venom’s.
Add Reverb
The final audio effect we can add is Reverb. Venom’s voice sounds like it’s bouncing off the walls inside your head. That eerie atmosphere comes from reverb.
To add Reverb to your audio using Adobe Audition, go to Effects > Reverb > Studio Reverb.
Then, under presets, choose Vocal Reverb. Finally, lower the Wet Output Level to less than 10%. In my case, I adjusted it to 5.5%. Doing this will give your voice that movie-theater style in the Venom film.
That’s it! With these 3 audio effects in Adobe Audition, you can make your voice sound like Venom. However, let me share a secret. There’s actually a plugin that makes it very easy to make the voice of Venom. If you are interested, keep reading.
Use Plugin Effects
Using Plugin Effects is one of the easiest ways to achieve that iconic voice of Venom. And when we talk about Plugins, Waves Audio is one of my favorites that I personally recommend. It’s a plugin that you can use in ANY audio editor, such as Adobe Audition (paid) and Audacity (free).
To use this Plugin in Adobe Audition, go to Effects > AU > Waves > OVox.
They have hundreds of effects to choose from. But don’t worry, because I found the effects that sound closest to Venom. I’ll list them below with instructions on how to find them.
- Bass Subres – Dropdown Plugin Menu > Instruments > Bass Subres
- Buzzy Low Octaves – Dropdown Plugin Menu > Artists > Cam Blackwood > Buzzy Low Octaves
- BaseLiner – Dropdown Plugin Menu > Vocoding > BaseLiner
- Fat Boy – Dropdown Plugin Menu > Vocoding > Fat Boy
- Added Sub – Dropdown Plugin Menu > Doubler > Added Sub
These effects are what I found closest to Venom’s voice. Most of these presets work on their own. However, some will need a few tweaks. You can watch this YouTube video to see how I made use of these Waves Audio presets to make my voice sound like Venom.
Final Thoughts
Creating the voice of Venom is not just about sounding deep. It’s also about layering the right audio effects to capture that gritty, alien presence. In short, you need to combine a clear and deep vocal delivery with the right audio effects chain, and you’ll sound like Venom. Of course, don’t forget to have fun in the process.
